North West Cambridge Development - university housebuilder

November 07, 2017

The creation of the first phase of the Eddington community is the culmination of a £350 million investment by the University of Cambridge, and part of the £1bn development to alleviate the university’s chronic housing storage. The provision of 3,000 new homes built to Code of Sustainable Homes Level 5, half for sale to the private sector, and half affordable housing for university staff.

The North West Cambridge Development masterplan, developed by AECOM, revolves around a central space known as Market Square, in the heart of the new University of Cambridge (UoC) developed district, Eddington. The new district officially opened to the public on 9th September 2017, including a new primary school and Sainsbury’s supermarket. The site-wide infrastructure was delivered by contractor Skanska.

The UoC required the highest level of survey accuracy to ensure the as-built construction is in accordance with the masterplan design, and appointed Aworth to independently audit and verify primary setting-out control.
