Build your career with us

May 09, 2022

Next year, Aworth Survey Consultants will be celebrating our 60th anniversary and, over that time, we have become one of the most highly regarded survey companies in the UK and recognised as an expert in both measurement and data capture.

Having been around for that length of time, our firm has successfully navigated two recessions, the uncertainty of Brexit and the Covid-19 pandemic.

As Managing Director, John Witherden, explains: “When times are tough, the pressure to succeed and maintain our high standards intensifies. I believe our reputation as a trusted, experienced and reliable service provider over nearly six decades has helped us to both survive and thrive.”

Over the years, we have worked on many high-profile projects – including One Crown Place in London, Asprey London, Merchant Square Paddington and the Bluewater shopping complex. Aworth offers a wide range of services to our clients, from land and building surveying, through to CAD production and BIM modelling.

Aworth has also made a difference to the land surveying industry itself, with John previously holding the position of Vice President of The Survey Association.

In addition to offering the opportunity to get involved with a variety of projects, we pride ourselves on nurturing and developing our staff members and supporting them in their training. For example, Project Manager Andrew Pullinger has built his career with us over the past 34 years, having joined as a trainee land surveyor.

He explains: “When I left college, I knew I wanted to pursue a career and not just a job. Surveying appealed to me because of the variety of environments and technologies, while Aworth offered a wide range of career paths and training.”

Andrew says that the diversity of building projects he manages and undertakes gives him a real sense of satisfaction. He adds that Aworth stands out from our competitors due to a ‘commitment to excellence’.

Managing Director, John Witherden, also joined Aworth straight from school and has been with us for nearly 50 years.

Land Surveying seemed to combine all the things I was interested in, offering me the chance to work outside, with technical equipment and in different places,” he says.

As he built his career with us, John says he prides himself with bringing a ‘consistency of approach, attention to detail and an understanding of client requirements’.

This year, Office Administrator Becky Fermer has been with us for five years and has also learnt new skills and been promoted since joining.

She explains: “When I first joined, I didn’t know much about surveying. However, I soon became really interested in what we do here. We’re a close-knit team and this gave me a real insight into what everyone does. Over the years, I’ve been able to see a project develop from that first phone call to seeing it through to completion. No day is ever the same and I love the variety.”

Based in Uckfield, East Sussex, Aworth works on projects across London and the South East. Uckfield itself is on the edge of the Ashdown Forest and within easy reach of both the coast and the capital.

While we are a long-established firm, we have kept our family values over the years and offer a friendly and supportive environment in which to work.
