Surveying | Fitness & Leisure Sector

September 07, 2021

In the UK, we take our health and fitness very seriously. According to recent figures from Statista (May 2021), there are more than 7,200 health and fitness clubs in the UK, with over 10 million combined members.

Here at Aworth Survey Consultants, we’ve worked on some interesting projects in the leisure sector over the years. While leisure centres were closed during the first lockdown, we did spy one of our projects on television! The first episode of series 3 of Killing Eve featured an opening scene set in a Russian gymnasium during the 1970s. However, our team immediately recognised the space as the Seymour Leisure Centre in London!

We surveyed the leisure centre five years ago on behalf of our client Westminster City Council. We provided a measured building survey to include floor plans, roof plans, elevations and sections, including an underground services stats report.

Aworth have worked with many councils, planners, architects and designers for many years and assisted on delivering projects from new build leisure centre complex’s such as The Triangle Leisure Centre, Burgess Hill to refurbishment projects for Southwark Council for regeneration of their existing leisure centres.

Our expertise in surveying allows us to provide clients with a wide range of services including; topographical and measured building surveys, as-built lettable area calculations, complied Land Registry plans, underground services surveys and CCTV services, floor plans, elevations, sections and verified view control data.

As well as large scale leisure centres, Aworth has undertaken many smaller projects, providing measured building plans and lease plans for small independent dance and yoga studios to mid-size fitness club chains.

Our measurement expertise has even been called upon to independently measure and verify the precise length of each swimming lane after refurbishment works to enable certification with the Amateur Swimming Association and Swim England for use as a competitive swimming pool.
