Zara reopens at Bluewater

April 12, 2021

The reopening of non-essential shops on Monday 12 April means that visitors to Bluewater in Kent will be able to enjoy Zara’s new concept store. This is a project we supported here at Aworth Survey Consultants, as we were asked to provide an updated floor plan of the expanded area.

Situated on Bluewater’s upper Guildhall, the 37,000 sq ft store is double the size of Zara’s previous store in the shopping centre and includes clothing for women, men and children over two floors, as well as mezzanine featuring Zara Home.

The Spanish retailer was founded in 1975 and now boasts more than 2000 stores around the world. This concept store at Bluewater has been based on the design of similar outlets in Barcelona and Dubai.

Rob Hardie, Portfolio Director at Landsec, co-owner and asset manager of Bluewater, said: “It is a testament to the strength and appeal of Bluewater to brands and consumers alike that Zara has chosen it as the debut location in the UK for its new global flagship concept. The store provides Bluewater’s guests with a genuine omni-channel experience that sets a precedent for the future of retail.”

Aworth’s relationship with Landsec, owner of Bluewater, goes back to when the complex opened in 1999. Bluewater is vast and covers 1.6 million sq ft of retail space surrounded by over 50 acres of parkland, including seven lakes and a million trees and shrubs. The entire development, including the connecting road infrastructure, is based upon our topographical and cadastral survey data.

“In a challenging period for retail, it’s really positive to see Zara’s new store open at Bluewater,” says John Witherden, Managing Director at Aworth Survey Consultants. “Our relationship with Landsec and Bluewater goes back more than 20 years and we are proud that our expertise has been called upon many times over the years, as the shopping complex has developed.”
